The congress was organised by the Black Sea Society of Clinic Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (BSCMID and the Kazakh National Medical University (KNMU) in collaboration with ISC.
After the collapse of former Soviet Union, incidence of infectious diseases has dramatically increased in the Central Asian States. Economic and political problems and ineffectivness of new healthcare systems or programs in these countries contributed such endemic diseases.

This workshop was co-organised by the The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Asia Pacific Society for Medical Virology (APSMV) an the Virology Section of the ISC.
Two 2-day workshops ran consecutively over 4 days, taught at basic and advanced levels. Each workshop consisted of lectures for the first day followed by a hands-on practical for the second day.

This one day meeting took place immediately before the 8th International Congress of Tropical Pediatrics (ICTP). It will be organized by the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics (ISTP) in collaboration with the Philippine Ambulatory Pediatrics Association (PAPA) and other local pediatrics organizations.
The purpose of this meeting was to develop Asian guidelines on meningitis, initiated by PSMID in collaboration with ISC.
